Building a Legacy That Impacts the World | An Essay by Eric Villatoro

Seven years ago, all I wanted was to build a business where I could prove to my father that I wouldn’t be a failure. I was full of selfish ambition, motivated by pain, eager to take over the world. But then I met Jesus. When Christ entered my life, my vision and purpose were completely transformed. Success was no longer about recognition or achievement, but about serving God and others. Instead of building my own empire, I now seek to build His Kingdom—starting with my family, extending through media, and carrying forward through mentoring future generations. My career field is nonprofit leadership and entrepreneurship in missionary work, and I hope to impact the world by first building a Christ-centered family that can encourage other families, then spreading the Gospel through mass media, and finally mentoring the next generation.

Family: The First Ministry

The first way I hope to impact the world is by devoting myself to my family, trusting that as we build a Christ-centered home, its influence will ripple outward to strengthen and encourage the global Church. Family is God’s original design and the foundation of His Kingdom, passing faith from one generation to the next. The apostle Paul teaches that anyone who aspires to leadership must first manage his household well (1 Timothy 3:4–5). Likewise, husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the Church, with sacrificial devotion (Ephesians 5:25–28). A Christ-centered family is a living testimony—nurturing children in the faith and inspiring other households to follow God’s design. When a home models love, humility, and obedience to God, it refreshes others just as Proverbs 11:25 describes. In this way, the private ministry of the home becomes a public witness. By prioritizing my family, I can contribute to a ripple effect that strengthens the global Church one household at a time.

Sharing the Gospel Through Media

The second way I want to impact the world is by sharing the Gospel through creating the world’s largest archive of Jesus testimonies. Testimonies carry unique power. They reveal the reality of God’s work in personal lives, fueling the Great Commission and spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Jesus promised His followers, “You will be my witnesses…to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Revelation 12:11 reminds us that believers overcome “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.” The Samaritan woman’s story in John 4:39–42 shows how a single testimony can draw an entire community to Christ. Today, mass media provides tools to multiply this effect globally. Through video, audio, and written accounts, stories of transformation can cross cultural and language barriers, reaching places where traditional missionaries cannot. By leveraging media, I can extend the reach of the Gospel beyond borders and generations, ensuring countless people encounter the living God through authentic stories of His power.

Mentoring the Next Generation

Finally, I want to mentor and equip the next generation. The Kingdom of God multiplies when one generation faithfully invests in another. Jesus instructed His disciples, “Freely you have received; freely give” (Matthew 10:8), and Paul modeled this in 2 Timothy 2:2 by urging believers to entrust the faith to reliable people who would teach others also. Mentorship is not simply about skills—it is about character, discipleship, and modeling servant leadership. As I pour into young leaders, I can help them walk confidently in their calling, blending creativity and faith to continue God’s mission. By investing in others, the impact multiplies exponentially, ensuring that the Gospel continues to spread through faithful leaders long after I am gone.

Conclusion

My career field of missionary work and entrepreneurship allows me to make an eternal impact by focusing on family, sharing the Gospel, and mentorship. Building a Christ-centered home lays strong foundations, mass media carries the Gospel across nations and generations, and mentorship raises up new leaders for the future. Just as Christ transformed my ambition into His mission, I believe every believer is called to let God reshape their vision—beginning with their family, extending into their work, and carrying forward through the next generation.
